2. 2 Stage ECM Blower
Technology- 2 flame sizes. Lower capacity for warmer days, larger capacity for colder days. Fan has 4 speeds but has some energy savings over PSC fans.
Pro’s: More even comfort, slight energy savings.
Con’s: Mid range life expect. Fan can be noisy

3. 2 Stage Variable blower
Technology-2 flame sizes. Lower capacity for warmer days, larger capacity for colder days. Variable fan ramps up and down evenly, adjusts to each homes ducts.
Pro’s: High energy savings, more even comfort, better system performance. Long Life expectancy. Helps to even out cold spots in the home.
Con’s: More expensive

4. Variable Heat Variable Blower
Technology- Flame varies up and down to the heat load of home each day. Variable fan ramps up and down evenly, adjusts to each homes ducts.
Pro’s: Provides constantly even comfort throughout the home, ultra high efficiency, best system performance available. Very long life expectancy. Helps even out cold spots in the home.
Con’s: More expensive

What to look out for:

  • Contractors that don’t fully explain all the options. A quality company should be able to compare your current utility costs with what the new option should cost
  • and calculate your different savings.
  • Contractors that only offer one manufacturer.

Typical mistakes:

  • Not having a Heat loss/Heat gain analysis to size the equipment properly.
